Spring 2022 One Room Challenge: The 10 Year Anniversary!
I am participating in the 8 week Spring 2022 One Room Challenge and this is week one!. My space… an old house kitchen. This house is a 90 year old home with a really tired 1970s kitchen with metal cabinets and floors that fold up. Are you you ready to see the before? You might want to go put some bell bottoms on and get ready for a 70’s throwback….
The floor is a vinyl sheet floor that was NOT glued down. LOL. The only think holding it down was the cabinets and floor transitions. I have never seen it done this way. Never and the floor was becoming a tripping hazard but it made it amazing for demo.
The cabinets are laminate fronts with metal boxes. All of the shelves are wire shelves which makes it hard to store anything that could slip through the slats.
None of us really understood the soffits. We knew this part of the kitchen was under a Tudor exterior roof angle but what was the lower part of the soffit? That was not original because it sat over the window trim.
We also hated that the sink was small and not centered under the window. And…. the stainless steel counter was NOT level. LOL.
Here is another angle to see the weirdness of the soffits. I also don’t like the fridge in its location. Just makes it all feel tight.
Yet these windows keep us from moving it over.
But lets back up and look at the good parts. No… not the pink painted rough cedar shiplap…. but the ORIGINAL built in. We knew that we were NOT going to touch that.
This is the breakfast nook. It was an original to the house but it was really really small. Only a bistro table would fit. You will see how it is going to work in the new plan.
Then here is the side entrance door to the house. This hallway and powder bath is getting a makeover as well.
Next week I will share the plan. Until then, make sure you follow along with the One Room Challenge this spring.
