We are in the final countdown of a week until the One Room Challenge Reveal. I am feeling pretty good about the space. This week I have been sewing sewing and sewing. To save money I am doing the bulk of the textile work specifically with the curtains and pillows. I have purchased all my rugs and bedding. I want the space to feel layered and unique. The best way to achieve unique is custom. I thought I would share some of my textiles in the space the week before the big reveal
I am an eclectic mis-matching pattern kind of girl but if not kept unchecked It can get kind of crazy. My rule is no rules but I have guidelines for making things cohesive. Everything has to have a partner in the space. The partner can be a two similar patterns, two similar textiles, or same colors. I like it all thrown into a neutral background.
The Neutrals:
The paint is Benjamin Moore Gray Owl with only 75% of the formula. Lightening Gray Owl by 25% is actually my favorite gray out there. It is a subtle more muted gray with only 75% of the formula. (If you want this color ask for Gray Owl with only 75% of the formula)
The rug is a knotted wool 8 X 10 from Lowes about 4 years ago. It was on clearance for $100. I had no idea where it would land but I knew it was a great rug for a great price. It has actually been in my master bedroom this whole time and it’s never lost it’s luster. The only thing was it was too big for the space…by one foot. No problem, I took it to a local carpet binder and for $35 it was cut down and bound on side to become to an 7 X 10.
The Vintage Textiles:
I ordered this rug from Ebay. The greens in the rug match the green in my bed perfectly.
I bought this vintage 1979 fabric sample remnant from an estate sale a few years ago. I like to keep things minimal in my home but my only exception is fabric. I am a fabric hoarder. The estate sale had tons of fabric and I think I picked up this piece for $1. It was like it was meant for the space… it has green, blue, black and coral. All the colors I wanted for this space and I found it lurking in my fabric bin. This will be used in a pillow textile.
The duvet cover is from Macy’s. I have loved stripes for so long but I think I am leaving my first love to window pane pattern. I really like white duvet’s but I wanted some subtle pattern. The window pane pattern was perfect. The blue blanket is an adult sized muslin blanket from The Company Store. It is called the Gossamer blanket and its temporarily not on their site. I called because I want to buy another for my son’s room and they told me it will be back soon. It might be the most amazing blanket I have ever had. So soft and light. The blue might seem random but the rug inspired it and you will see more of it in wall decor and upholstery next week!
The black has it’s partner in the rug, the sconces over the bed, the duvet cover…. and the curtains. Yes this duvet cover… with a little bit of tweaking turned into this…
When this ORC challenge is over I will come back and give a tutorial on how to make stylish curtains out of a duvet cover.
This is all I have for today. Lots to do but it’s coming together.
