Here is my advice… buy quality wallpaper. I chose inexpensive wallpaper because it was my first time to install wall paper and that was the wrong thinking. You need to buy the quality stuff because it will make installing it much easier. While this wall paper is actually durable and quality on the wall. One it is on the wall I can tell it will stand the test of time, but getting it on the wall has taken a few years off my life in stress. The way it is cheaply made has caused the install process to take forever.
The pattern is not printed uniformly on rolls. The install instructions are vague and I have had to take drastic measures to make it line up. Since the paper is sometime printed in a crooked way I have to cut down the excess of each roll on the lines. Since it is a grid the pattern can only be lined up when you cut the excess off. My sanity along with my renovation timeline went out the door Monday night.
I had planned on post how I am going to frame my sons art today. Because of family in town and Halloween I am behind. Such is a renovation right? The built ins are done and I am in love.
I also decided last minute to paint my built ins dark and blue and it was absolutely the right decision.
I have also decided to do something different for the loft bed wall. The wall paper will only go around three of the four walls. Here is an inspiration photo to kind of give you an idea. Honestly I have been trying to figure out a way to get a bulletin board into the room. Its a request from my son and it is such an easy way to show case his favorite (yet ever changing) things.
Here is what is left to do:
- Finish the wall paper. (happening the moment I get done with this post.)
- Paint the built ins – happening tonight after all my family goes to bed.
- Install the wall paper on the window between the built ins (after paint). Style the built ins – (Saturday afternoon)
- Install the fun wall treatment and install the loft bed – Sunday afternoon. Install the light fixture and order the large art to be printed.
- Monday and Tuesday style the room (my favorite part)
- Wednesday morning photoshoot and write post
- Thursday morning publish post and sleep.
Okay, no more time to post. It’s time to catch up. But you have time to check out the other featured designers.
I honestly was so discouraged this week but on Wednesday I took the time to scroll throughout their posts and realized we are all in this together and we all have setbacks. It also put mine in perspective. Some setbacks are due to loss of power due to the fire’s in California. I am amazed at the positive attitudes of The Hommeboys as they are facing life right now. Or Erika Ward whose instagram account was hacked. What grace and strength she has shown!
Also check out my fellow guest participants. It’s so fun to follow their journey.
