I actually was not planning on doing the One Room Challenge thing spring in its scheduled time. I had too many client projects (and a few of my own) coming up and didn’t want to stress my family out. Then Corona Virus hit. My new Client projects were moved to mid summer and early fall and all of us stayed home. When I heard that the ORC moved the start to May… I was in. Lets do this.
I still have work to do, a kid at home with nowhere to go. I also didn’t want to tackle a huge renovation. I wanted to update a space that will be used mostly using what I have. So here is the room when we moved in:
Besides the Carpet and the HVAC pipe running to the first floor in the corner… I thought it was pretty cute.
It was a cute little girls room from the 1960s. I met the owner when we bought the house. She grew up in the home and this was her room.
Of course we moved it forward when we renovated upstairs: Here is it in its freshly renovated state. New windows, new drywall, new insulation, refinished wood floors.
Back when I was a writer for Curbly I styled the space and here is the finished product. Its funny how your style evolves because this is not really my style at all but I did love the cozy feel of the room:
Here is the room today. Its the dumping ground for everything and then I quickly clean it up when someone comes to stay.
The bed sheets have been stripped for about of month. I do like some of the elements of this room. The bed will stay.
There will be no major furniture purchases or rug purchases. I might buy a light fixture… maybe. I will buy paint. I will buy new window treatments. I am going to see what I can pull out of my attic, storage, and vintage stash for this one when it comes to furniture.
The Plan
Again… this is inspiration. I am going to see if I can make something like this style board happen. I will explain the function of all the pieces once I figure out the room layout.
No major projects except for one: Figure out how to recreate this discontinued wall paper from Target. I hate stenciling. (Nothing wrong with it… its me. (I just don’t have the patience)… but I can’t find any wall paper that looks similar!
Tune in next week to if I decided to switch out rugs or change the layout of the room.
