I am participating in the Spring 2021 One Room Challenge Event. I am excited to do a Client’s bathroom. We actually started this project a few months back but had some Covid delays so I decided make this space my One Room Challenge space. We are past demo stage but I have captured the process and will get you caught up to real time in the next few weeks of the challenge. Lets start with the before and the plan…
Here is the bathroom in its original form from 90 Years ago. The only update this bathroom received was a bathroom vanity from the 1970s. I am sure it originally had a pedestal sink. You can see from the hole in the floor across from the vanity that it also originally had a radiator vent.
The best part of this bathroom was the pink marble tile floor. We wanted to keep it. We really did but to bring this bathroom up to modern times it had to go. It was embedded in 6″ of concrete with leaking cast iron pipes underneath. Note the towel you see in the upper left part of the picture. If you flushed toilet, water would leak and the towel was there to soak it up. Yuck!
We also wanted to make the bathroom bigger. This is a second walk in closet from the master. We debated doing two bathrooms. The master bathroom would be tiny. A tiny corner shower and a tiny 24″ vanity was all that could fit if you wanted a toilet too (LOL) so we decided to combine the spaces and make one large bathroom that could fit a tub, a large shower, a larger vanity and also…drumroll…. a laundry cabinet. This was a win for the homeowner. She didn’t want to have to walk down two flights of stairs to do laundry.
The bathroom would have to access points: One from the hall and one from the master. It would be kid friendly with a tub but also have a HUGE shower. Next week I will share the layout but today I will share the look book.
We wanted a modern and timeless look. I wanted this space to be updated and timeless. I did not want to depart from the look of the bathroom but I also wanted to give it some modern touches. The marble mosaic is exactly the type of tile that would have been installed 90 years ago. I did want to add color to the bathroom and I wasn’t afraid to do so because the bathroom for 90 years was pink and white. Pink and white worked as timeless for 90 years so why not green and white?
The house has lots of wood elements in it so I wanted to add back in a wood vanity. I can’t wait to catch you up to the modern day progress. We will be there on week 3. Stay tuned next week for the layout renderings.
If you want to follow along to all the amazing week 1 spaces
