It is the final week of the Spring 2021 One Room Challenge and we somehow finished! I couldn’t love this bathroom more. For those of you seeing this for the first time, this is a 90 year old home that had never gotten a bathroom remodel. In the 70s it got a new vanity and toilet but everything else was just as it was 90 years ago. We knew we wanted to keep the character of the home in mind but we also wanted to give this one bathroom all the modern conveniences of a new home. Let’s take a look at the before pictures.
Here was the bathroom in all this glory. There was a hole in the floor from how every many years ago they removed the radiator. The vanity had a 1970s vibe and was covering the hole from when the previous owners removed the original pedestal.
The goals for the space were the following:
- Walk in shower
- Tub
- Well thought out storage
- Laundry Cabinet (Because the owner didn’t want to go down to the basement to do laundry and this small house didn’t have another place upstairs for it to go)
This is the only bathroom upstairs and because of where the stairs are located there was no other place for another full sized bathroom or laundry room. This little extra closet was in the master. We had a decision to make:
- Add another bathroom with a tiny shower and tiny vanity. The plumbing in the wall was also making the toilet go in a weird place and moving it didn’t help the layout either because of the window. Read about it more here in week 2.
- Add a laundry room and renovate the the bathroom. This was what we almost did but there was no way to get a walk in shower AND a separate tub. This was high priority because the homeowner is in her 60s. She wants a tub for resale and for grandkids but everyday she wants to walk in and not step into a tub.
The Solution was a tub in a shower with a laundry cabinet:
We removed the middle wall and just made one big bathroom
The toilet stayed in the same location but the vanity moved over into what used to be the closet. This made room for a HUGE shower tub combo. We also installed heated floors in the bathroom. They work sooo well. I love them and glad we could put this luxury into one (full) bathroom home.
Now you can step into the shower and also have a soaking tub. The shower is huge by the way…. HUGE!
Lets talk the color blocked tile. It is Bedrosians Zenia Tile in Orion and Bedrosians Zenia Tile in Milky Way. We used the top of the privacy Glass window as the point were the tile changed from green to white.
The Tub is actually the only tub that we could find to fit. It is 55″ wide. It is actually a tub from amazon and we are super pleased with the quality.
The floor tile is a marble flower mosaic with a brown marble dot. To make the bathroom look bigger we used it on every inch of the floor.
The fixtures are my favorite. They are Kohler Purist line.
Sadly Kohler Purist is no longer doing their linear tub faucet, where the handles and spout is in a line. We were happy with this set up as well.
We took the 90 year old door to the hallway and turned into a locking pocket door. This was important for the function of the vanity, toilet and shower area.
The vanity is from Houzz and it is the perfect amount of storage but we knew that we needed to make the most of the storage so we got a seriously hardworking medicine cabinet.
The medicine cabinet is a Roburn Profile cabinet. I has mirrors on all sides, electrical outlets, and magnetic strips. It extra tall so all the small things that would fill these drawers are now in the wall.
The light fixture is from one of my favorite Etsy stores for lighting.
We continued the Kohler Purist theme on the vanity. The marble top is from a local countertop company called Wichita Granite and Cabinetry.
The Bathroom has two entrances, this is the entrance into the master bedroom.
Right when you walk into the master bedroom you see the laundry cabinet.
The doors open to a stackable unit. The doors also slide into the cabinet so you don’t have to open and shut the door each time. There is storage on the other side of the door for her laundry supplies.
We used a European sized stackable washer and dryer. The dryer has a heat pump so it does not need to be vented out of the house. Yet, the doors needed to be vented. We had doors made without a middle panels and installed radiator grates and instead of a panel or glass. There was once a radiator in here so it was fun to add that old house element to the laundry cabinet.
We somehow were able to jam alot into the space. We made the decision to tile under the laundry cabinet just in case another homeowner wanted to removed the cabinet and make a double vanity. For this homeowner, having laundry right next to her bedroom was a real win!
Thats a Wrap! There are some fantastic finished spaces posted yesterday, today and the coming days. I will share some of my favorites on social media but its quite remarkable what people have done!

Love the Kohler Purist fixtures! Which finish are these in? Can’t tell if they’re bronze or brass. They go together perfectly with that green.
Midwest Eclectic says
Yes, they are brass. The have updated their brass color since we bought them. The newest Kohler finish is a little bit brighter.

Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee with only 75% of the formula

Which finish and manufacturer are the shower door hinges and handle? Beautiful match to the Kohler hardware.
Midwest Eclectic says
I am not sure. I used a custom glass company that is local and they have a sample board. Most companies like that do so I would just take in your hardware and match it to their samples
Lauren says
Hi! What glass doors did you use? Did you buy specific hardware? I’m thinking about doing a large glass shower as well
Jackie says
Can you link the lighting company from Etsy?
Kelly says
This is beautiful. It looks like there are window treatments but hard to tell what they are. Shades?
Midwest Eclectic says
No window treatments. Just new windows with privacy glass.

Gorgeous bathroom 🤩
We just ordered the same tile for our shower. I love how muted and seem less it looks. I’ve seen others with larger grout lines that I don’t prefer as much as this. Do you happen to know the size of your grout lines?
Midwest Eclectic says
We used the smallest grout spacer. I think it was 1/16 or maybe 1/8 inch.

Shaniqua Washington says
Are you sure the color of the wall tile is Orion? It looks blue in the product shot on the Bedrosian site, but then I see shots of this bathroom on the sam listing, so I am confused. The closest one I can find to this green is their other style “Celine” in Sage, but I think there is too much variation/contrast in that style. I’d really love to find this exact tile you used, in these tones of green with subtle varation. Any advice you have would be super helpful and thanks in advance!
Midwest Eclectic says
Its Orion. I agree is looks blue online. I thought so at first until I got a sample and was shocked how green it is. My advice is always to get a sample from Bedrosians.
