Spring 2022 One Room Challenge: The 10 Year Anniversary!
It is week 5 and we are diving into all things Cabinetry. I have always wanted to install an Ikea/Semi-handmade combo in a kitchen and this small kitchen was the place to do it. Ikea’s cabinets are, in my opinion, the most affordable functional cabinet out there. You can pack a mad punch of function into one 30″ Base cabinet. This is crucial in a kitchen without many cabinets. Semihandmade helps you make it unique.
The walls are painted. The floor is in and its times to start installed the cabinets. Here was the overall look
We purchased Semihandmade Agave Kitchen Cabinets.
The 100 year old front door of the house had a beaded profile and I knew these would fit into the overall house look. To me… The kitchen is the central architectural feature of the space and I wanted it to be cohesive.
The Layout:
Lets look at the plans. You don’t have many base cabinets to play with so its important to max out the function.
The far end (Left to right): a two drawer with an interior drawer, a dishwasher with a panel front and a trash cabinet with an interior drawer.
Turn the corner (left to right) a dead corner , A 15″ 3 drawer with interior drawer, a 36″ sink cabinet and a lazy susan.
Turn the corner and you have (left to right) a Lazy Susan, an Ilve Stove and a three drawer with an interior drawer.
Finally… The bulk of the storage is in the pantry fridge cabinet.
The pantry Cabinet used to look like this….
Here is what it looks like today
Sadly there is a brick chase that goes all the way through the house. It is killing the pantry depth. Thankfully Ikea makes a shallow depth pantry.
Or should I say… DID make a shallow depth pantry
We had already ordered and received the Semihandmade doors and Ikea discontinued the cabinet. I had been waiting for the two pantry cabinet for 6 months and then they contacted me that it would not be coming back in. So….. we decided to try Menards Klearvue cabinetry, which is a similar style cabinetry to Ikea. We will see if it works…. Yikes. Its a bit risky but I think it could work.
Stay Tuned!
