Spring 2022 One Room Challenge: The 10 Year Anniversary!
After all the base cabinets have been installed it is time for the shelves to be installed. I have an easy easy DIY Open shelves that is classic and crosses many different styles. The great news is you can tile around it. Here is what you need.
1 X 12 board
This is for the actual shelf. Cut the 1 X 12 to size. Most upper cabinets are 11.25″ deep so I usually make my open shelves
1 X 8 Board
Cut the 1X 8 down to an actual 1X6 size for the back wall cleat.
Pegs
Pick the size pegs you would like to use
Brackets
I chose these wood brackets from Amazon from Elkena Millwork. I cut these down to 6 inches.
How To:
Step 1
Install the back wall cleat. Attaching the cleat to the studs. We countersunk the screws and filled the holes
Step 2
Install the pegs. Mark the distance you desire them to be apart, drill the pilot hole and then screw them in. So easy.
Step 3
Install the brackets and the shelves.
Now it is time to paint them and get the backsplash up. Stay tuned. We are almost there.
